March into Spring in Coastal Style

March into Spring in Coastal Style

Spring 2021 will see a revival in trends that we may recognise.  With the topic of sustainability and upcycling being more important and on trend than ever, it is no surprise that the resurgence of past trends are also making a comeback.

This week we will take a look at the Coastal Trend.

Once a staple of the Hamptons Summer Set, this classic, clean and crisp style suits many properties and injects a fresh vibe into your home.  This year, the coastal trend can be as elaborate or as scaled back as you would like. From white walls and sofas with pale blue accents, through to embellished and printed wallpapers, you can still make this look your own.

Who remembers Diane Keaton’s house in ‘Something’s Gotta Give’, or the stunning home of Grace and Frankie?  These are always my go to inspirational mood board homes, and also two of my favourite set designs for properties on the screen. Anyone else?

To create this look, focus on the wall colours using soft seascape tones.  The traditional colours would be white and pale blues, but bring in taupe, cream or even pale greens to add more interest.  Changing your sofa may not be an option, but throws and cushions can help change the appearance. Try linen cushion covers and cotton throws.  Seagrass has made its way into many a home over the last couple of years, and is the perfect addition as a rug or basket to suit the coastal trend.  The occasional sculpture such as a shell or faux coral will also tie the look together.  In England, we may not all benefit from the appropriate beach scenery to complete our beach house style, so instead artwork and mirrors are a great way to bring the whole look together. Texture for this look is hugely important, especially if you are planning on keeping your scheme predominantly white.  This will add depth and character and stop your room from feeling 2 dimensional.

Wherever your home may be, even if you are living in the city, this is still a style that can be achieved in your home as it is such a classic look.

If this is a style that you would like us to source and work on with you, let us know!
